Best Time to Visit Oman: A Season-by-Season Guide

From cool winter trekking and desert camps to Salalah's green Khareef — when to visit Muscat, the mountains, wadis and Dhofar.

Oman rewards travellers in every season, but the best time depends on what you want to experience. The Sultanate stretches from dramatic Hajar peaks and Wahiba dunes to the monsoon-green coast of Salalah — each region has its own rhythm.

October through April is ideal for Muscat city tours, wadi swims and desert safaris. Daytime temperatures are comfortable, nights in the desert are cool enough for camping under the stars, and mountain trails from Jebel Shams to Jabal Al Akhdar are at their most inviting.

May and September are shoulder months — fewer crowds, good hotel availability and warm seas for snorkeling around the Daymaniyat Islands. Plan early starts for outdoor activities and reserve air-conditioned transport for midday sightseeing.

June to September brings the Khareef to Salalah, when Dhofar turns lush and misty — a phenomenon unlike anywhere else on the Arabian Peninsula. Frankincense trails, Wadi Darbat waterfalls and coastal drives are unforgettable in these months.

Whenever you travel, Falcon Expeditions can tailor packages around weather, festivals and your interests — whether a long weekend in Muscat or a two-week odyssey across the Sultanate.
